Keno Don Hugo Rosa, known simply as Don Rosa (born June 29, 1951), is an American comic book writer and illustrator known for his stories about Scrooge McDuck, Donald Duck and other Disney characters.
Don Rosa’s passion for comics stems from his childhood, where he grew up reading them. He also drew small stories himself – both with the known Disney characters and with others created by himself. The dream of a career as a comic creator, however, was initially just a dream. He earned a bachelor of arts degree in civil engineering from the University of Kentucky and took over the family business.
In 1987 he decided to pursue his old childhood dream; he took the chance and contacted the American publisher of Disney comics to see if they could use him. He was given a chance, and soon his first story titled Sun Of The Sun was a reality.
One of Don Rosa’s most famous works is The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck. He is also known for his detailed family tree of the duck family, an attempt to catalog many of the more or less fleeting characters who have visited Duckburg through the ages, and which were invented by different artists/authors.
Don Rosa’s stories – and his drawing style – has always been the subject of vigorous debate in comic book circles. Few Disney cartoonists have managed to cause as much controversy as Don Rosa. Whatever one may think about Don Rosa’s stories and drawings, it is quite appropriate that he gets his own gallery page at Disneyana+. In time, it is our intention is to offer a wide selection of Don Rosa’s works both in the form of lithographic prints and carefully selected original drawings in pencil and ink format.
