Storyboards

Storyboarding is a classic animation technique that was developed at the Walt Disney Studios in the 1930s.       A storyboard is a graphic organizer that consists of illustrations or images displayed in sequence for the purpose of pre-visualizing a motion picture, animated feature film or cartoon short Instead of describing the plot with words, animators would draw sequential scenes for a new cartoon and pin them to the walls of their office. The technique soon became the standard for mapping out new cartoons. Things like type of camera shot, angle and blocking of characters was decided by the use of storyboards.

Storyboard art dating back to the Disney’s golden age is quite rare today. This is not least due to the fact that the vast majority of these pieces of concept art were thrown out after they had served their use on the Disney studio walls.
