Original artwork featuring Daisy Duck, Donald Duck and Jenny the Burro
“He rode his burro all the way to visit Donna Duck”. Don Donald was Daisy (then called Donna Duck) and Donald’s first time meeting, and their feelings for each other are as clear as day in Tom Wood’s stellar 12 field original publicity drawing! This Ben Sharpsteen-directed short would be the first installment in Donald’s own series premiering on January 9, 1937, with unparalleled voice work of Clarence “Ducky” Nash for both Donald and Donna. Donald strummed a beat adapted from real-world Mexican folk songs, trying to get Donna’s attention while Jenny the Burro grew more and more jealous. This astonishing piece of original art has is a preliminary drawing for Tom Wood’s page on the short in Good Housekeeping and shows Wood’s knack for bringing Disney’s characters to life in laugh-out-loud scenarios. The artwork is in very good condition with light edge and handling wear and faint age-related toning.
This beautiful pencil study is professonally framed behind museum-grade glass to a total size of approx. 33 x 26 cm. The artwork is accompanied by a CoA from Gallery Disneyana+.
Whether displayed as a centerpiece in a Disney art collection or enjoyed as a tribute to Donald’s enduring legacy, this original artwork is a delightful reminder of why Disney’s golden-age characters continue to captivate audiences around the world.
