Dude for a Day – Bone China Figurine #1/100!

Description

One hundred examples. One number one.

Some collectables stand out for their craftsmanship. Others for their rarity or exceptional condition. This Dude for a Day set brings those qualities together: the porcelain figurine numbered 1/100, presented in perfect condition, accompanied by its matching certificate of authenticity and framed Carl Barks-signed lithograph, numbered 1/100 F.

Released in 1993 by Another Rainbow and produced by Connoisseur of Malvern, England, the sculpture brings Carl Barks’ 1975 painting into three dimensions. Donald Duck is dressed to impress, carrying a colourful bouquet and a walking stick, while his nephew Huey gives his footwear a final polish.

Barks personally developed drawings for the sculpture and worked closely with Connoisseur’s craftsmen to capture his characters from every angle. The result preserves the humour, personality and expressive charm of his original composition.

The craftsmanship rewards a closer look. Individual flower petals were shaped and assembled by hand, the walking stick was made in bronze for strength, and a sparkling zircon adorns Donald’s tie pin. Hand-painted and signed in gold by Carl Barks, the sculpture stands on a specially made cherrywood base.

The artwork and its three-dimensional counterpart

The accompanying lithograph allows the collector to enjoy Barks’ composition alongside its sculptural interpretation. Signed by Barks and numbered 1/100 F, it is presented in a cherrywood frame that complements the figurine’s base, with a coloured double mount surrounding the image.

Together, the two pieces make a striking display, revealing how the details and personality of Barks’ painting were translated into porcelain.

The distinction of number one

With the figurine numbered 1/100 and the lithograph bearing the corresponding 1/100 F, this pairing holds a particularly appealing position within the edition.

Its rarity extends beyond the original edition limit: unsold sculptures were subsequently destroyed when the edition was closed, leaving fewer than the original 100 numbered figurines.

For the collector seeking exceptional craftsmanship, a figurine in perfect condition and the coveted number one, this is an outstanding opportunity.
