Description

Pinocchio – after concept painting

A father’s love, a little wooden boy and a world of extraordinary detail.

In this atmospheric illustration, Gustaf Tenggren captures a touching encounter between Geppetto and Pinocchio, whose donkey ears and tail reveal the consequences of his adventures on Pleasure Island. Beneath the warm glow of a hanging lantern, Geppetto reaches towards him in a rustic ship’s interior filled with weathered timbers, fishing nets and everyday objects.

Soft colours, expressive gestures and beautifully observed details give the scene the intimacy of a classic storybook illustration. It is an image that rewards a closer look, balancing the wonder of Pinocchio’s world with the tenderness at the heart of his story.

A charming addition to any Disney art collection, celebrating the distinctive vision of one of the artists who helped shape Disney’s early feature films.
