Donald’s Dilemma by Manuel Gonzales
School or the swimming hole? For Donald Duck, doing the right thing has rarely looked so difficult.
Based on an original drawing by Manuel Gonzales, this delightful print finds Donald at a crossroads in every sense. With his schoolbooks tucked under one arm, he faces competing advice from two familiar-looking figures: a mischievous devil urging him towards the swimming hole and an earnest angel pleading the case for school.
Gonzales tells the story through expressive faces, lively poses and wonderfully clear gestures. Donald’s sideways glance suggests that temptation may already have the upper hand, while the opposing signposts complete a visual joke that needs no dialogue.
Visible red construction lines beneath the darker outlines preserve the drawing’s spontaneous character, offering an appealing glimpse of the artwork taking shape.
Full of humour and personality, this is a charming choice for Donald Duck collectors and anyone who has ever been tempted to take the more enjoyable path.
